Code of Conduct and Ethics

The following is an overview of the conduct and ethics which Glenwood House expects its students to both display and practise.

  1. DSC_0323_320x200Pupils of Glenwood House will do their best to live up to Christian morals and ethical standards.
  2. Pupils of Glenwood House will show due respect to their parents, teachers, elders and their peers. This will be done irrespective of race, gender and creed.
  3. Racism will not be tolerated.
  4. Pupils of Glenwood House will not be party to behaviour that is non-Christian, unpatriotic or anti-social.
  5. Pupils of Glenwood House will strive to uphold the honour and good name of the school and will obey all school rules and regulations, both at school and in any place or situation where the school is represented. This includes all contexts where the school uniform is worn, as well as any situation where the pupil(s) are known to be pupils of Glenwood House.
  6. Pupils of Glenwood House will wear the school uniform and sports attire with pride, and in full conformity with the dress code.
  7. Pupils are to avoid the company of, or association with any person who will bring the name of the school into disrepute.
  8. Pupils of Glenwood House will abstain from the use or possession of any alcoholic beverage, illegal drug or nicotine product. Permission is granted to the Headmaster (or a duly appointed proxy) to conduct a search of blazers, pockets, suitcase, lockers and bags in the event of there being grounds for suspicion for the aforementioned offence. All searches will be conducted with respect to the dignity of the pupil. The Headmaster (or duly appointed proxy) is also granted permission to obtain samples for pathological laboratory analysis.
  9. Pupils of Glenwood House will avoid frequenting any place where disreputable persons or unseemly behaviour takes place.
  10. Pupils of Glenwood House will not use banned substances to enhance sporting performance.
  11. Pupils of Glenwood House will not use offensive or abusive language.
  12. Hate speech will not be tolerated.
  13. Pupils of Glenwood House will participate in extra-mural activities at school, and will be expected to attend all required school functions.
  14. Certain extra-mural activities sanctioned by the school will require compulsory attendance by all pupils, e.g. productions, derby sports events, inter-house galas and inter-house athletics.
  15. Pupils of Glenwood House will submit to any discipline or punishment lawfully imposed by the Headmaster and/or any person designated by him.
  16. Should it be necessary to establish fact, the Headmaster (or a duly appointed proxy) is granted permission to search a pupil's person and/or property. Any such search will be conducted with respect to the pupil's dignity.
  17. Glenwood House reserves the right to amend and/or alter the school rules and regulations, dress code, admissions policy and any other matters pertaining to the daily running of the school.
